MAPUCHE INITIATIVE - Accomplished

_Argentine. Culture, Education, Economic development - Accomplished

The Mapuches community is an indigenous people living in the north-western region of Patagonia, Argentina. Since long time, they suffer from severe discrimination. The unemployment rate of this community reaches up to 40%. The initiative aimed at: a) the valorisation of the Mapuche culture, b) giving the Mapuches community the tools so be able to develop the tourism in their region, promoting their culture and economic independence and especially c) passing them the knowledge of how to preserve their social and cultural heritage. In Argentina, the initiative is under the responsibility of the two local archaeologists and supervised by our argentine EI coordinator.

The updated promotion and information material for the museum of Pilcaniyeu (book, flyers, information panels, etc.) have been published. The renovation and adaptation of the museum progresses have been done (the reproductions of ancient Mapuche caves of high historical and artistic value, are already available for the public). Moreover, a partnership contract has been signed between Evolutio-International and the municipal administrator of the village in order to institutionalise our activities in the field.

Our association would like to thank everyone already supporting this initiative, especially the foundation AVINA (Suisse), the individual donors and our members.
